Job Description

The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering fast, unbiased news from every corner of the world to all media platforms and formats. Its video business has bureaus in more than 80 countries, and distributes global news, sport, entertainment, technology and lifestyles content to broadcast, online and mobile platforms. Founded in 1846, AP today is the most trusted source of independent news and information. On any given day, more than half the world’s population sees news from AP.

The Social Media and UGC Editor is a vital role that identifies and secures third party content to make distinctive news for customers of the AP report.    The role leads the daily acquisition, verification and production of user-generated content, develops sources and techniques, and trains colleagues in best practice.

Main Duties:

  • Source, acquire, validate, and produce user-generated content for distinctive news stories on a daily basis;
  • Set up and lead monitoring of social media on large news events;
  • Share best practice and techniques with colleagues, based on AP standards and policy;
  • Develop sources and techniques for reaching new content;
  • Track and report on emerging trends and opportunities;
  • Develop and recommend strategies for AP to remain up-to-date and competitive.

Essential Criteria:

  • Journalism background;
  • Experience in international video news production;
  • Video editing skills;
  • English news writing skills;
  • Experience in sourcing and securing UGC;
  • Understanding of the content industry and emerging trends and techniques;
  • Strong attention to detail, creative and persistent;
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills;
  • Passionate and driven to achieve.
